ASSOMAC study on Sustainability “Supplier of Sustainable Technologies”: number 8 special appointments about the relations among Sustainability, Society and global Fashion Markets. (Report developed between February 2019 and November 2019)

The project Assomac “Supplier of Sustainable Technology”, which produced the “Green Label”, ushered in a comparison cycle with public institutions, companies and business associations of the areas close to us to broaden the scope of ecology in business management: a work that in 2019 monitored the events on the theme of sustainability.

The first appointment we attended this year was the seminar with Quantis ( Milan, 2019 February 26 ), entitled “Per un 2019 all’insegna di una moda più sostenibile (For a 2019 in the name of a more sustainable fashion)” , in conclusion of Fashion Week. The session presented the results of the Measuring Fashion study : Insights from the Environmental Impact by Global Apparel and Footwear Industries” , produced by Quantis and shared with the New York Times .

This seminar follows COP24, the main climate world conference , held in Poland in December 2018, and during which the “Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action”, written by leading fashion, clothing and footwear brands, was proposed through the textile and leather world. This document formalizes the commitment of the sector industry to reduce by 30% the greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, to align the fashion industry to the overall objective of limiting warming to 2°C.

The next appointment was the conference “Sustainable Brands Paris”, which was held in Paris, the city of COP21. This was the largest European conference on sustainability and innovation. Assomac has taken several cues and has begun to explore the ground and find alliances for the qualification of eco-sustainable production processes.

Our project “Supplier of Sustainable Technology” is based on the concept that environmental sustainability is combined with welfare and social inclusion. The reduction of environmental impact is not a limiting factor, on the contrary it is a big business opportunity because globally the fashion is worth 2.5 trillion dollars and is in close contact with the most informed consumers.  We, in this process, want not only to react to the impositions that will come from the market and institutions, but to have a proactive attitude, that is to have the ability to prevent and anticipate the problems and future needs of final consumers , and therefore of our customers.

Based on these premises, we want to develop a sustainable investment support program, with guidelines to prepare the social and environmental sustainability report, the complex “Sustainability Reporting” methodology.

With this idea of the supply chain pact we have many projects in the pipeline that we will be able to deepen soon, like traceability certificates and entrepreneurial training.
